Is Life Fair to You?

Hello everyone! Well I just recently had my annual review. And as usual, I came out with the same feeling as always.. Dissatisfaction! But can you blame me? Tell me one thing, is there anyone here who thinks that he deserves less than what he is already getting? Is there anyone who says, oh, I am a pretty useless fellow, so I don’t really deserve this increment or bonus or whatever it is.. Does it ever happen? No, everyone in fact, feels like Life has not been fair to them..

My dear (friends), is Life fair to You?…

Don’t even think about it, the answer to this question, is almost without exception, a big NO! A secondary corollary to this is – “Life is fair, but to someone OTHER than me..”! And the irony of this is, Each one of us thinks this way! 🙂

Well, we are all human beings.. and we like to complain.. That’s understandable, nothing wrong with that! It’s in our genes.. Even my Son started saying “This is unfair”, since the age of 3..!! Daddy, it’s not fair that I don’t get a toy when you bought yourself a pair of socks! 😉 Yes, everyone thinks like this at some point or the other. I too, have felt it on a number of occasions.. Let me give you some examples and see if you an empathize with me here –

Consider this – I am driving.. and I am doing something like 4 miles over the speed limit (that’s as adventurous I get ever since I turned 40!) and some other car speeds by me like 20 miles over the limit. Fine, no worries.. young blood! But the next thing I know is I see Blue and Red lights in MY rear view mirror.. So I get pulled over, but that other car doesn’t! Fair?

I never win anything in Lotteries, Raffles, Lucky Draws, even Bingo for that matter.. Never won anything. Just read about people winning lotteries in Newspapers – 10M, 100M, ..and then they go hide somewhere so that nobody finds out! 😉 Never experienced that first hand.. You know those games in small fairs – you shoot 3 cans, and you get a stuffed toy – never even got that! I go to conferences, and they have raffles for iPad and what not, but hey, did I EVER get one? NO !! The closest I came to winning that, was just when they announced the winning number that differed from mine by a single digit! Very unfair..

[I will tell you what else is unfair – some of you bought houses before 2001/2002 (don’t know exactly when things started to go south), and are probably sitting on a pile of cash. I hear you all telling me about how you borrowed against your “Equity” – a word I am still trying to find in my Dictionary!! ‘Cuz a few of us like me, bought our houses in 2005 and are still swimming.. under water! Is that even close to being fair?] = Optional

We see so many people breaking laws, acting unethically.. but still owning mansions and having humongous business empires! And you were told when you were a kid that you do good things, good things will happen to you, do bad things and bad things happen to you.. And when you see the real world, does it really happen that way? Life does not follow such equations. Everybody wishes it would or could, but it doesn’t..

So you complain.. Now, why do we say that? When kids say that, it’s obvious – they want their parents to hear it. “Daddy it’s not fair that all my friends have the new XBox, but only I don’t have it.. (well, you have other consoles that your friends don’t have.. but still, I don’t have XBox!)” Why do we, adults, say this is not fair to me..? Because, we think maybe God might hear us and cut us some slack, give us something sometimes! And what happens when He really gives us something..?

Here is what happened a few days ago – I went to Atlantic City for the 100th time, and for the first time in my life, I won a $5000 jackpot..! So I am sitting there in front of the Slot Machine and thinking – I must have come here like hundred times and spent 10 grand or so, and NOW I get this $5000 – when people just put a quarter and get a Million!!? This is NOT fair!

I am sure there was someone sitting next to me there who saw me putting a quarter in and getting those $5000, and he must have thought, oh life is so good to this guy! What he did not see, is that it was my 40,000th quarter! 😉

So what’s my point then? Ladies and Gentlemen, when you look at your life, it will never appear to play fair with you. Just live Life, Enjoy it.. Complaining just leads to frustration. Try hard, but if you fail, move on to the next…

Sad side of life..

Everyone comes to this world, with a handful of invisible sand of life and like the sand in a sand clock, the grains of life keep slipping away from our hand. Hardly does one realize when and how the sand he brought with him slips away from his hand..
