My temporary bachelorhood!

I am experiencing a temporary bachelorhood right now with my wife and kid in India.. My friends invite me to spend my weekends with them. So here is an email I sent to them as a Thank You.. Thought it might be worth a read:

Thanks for inviting a lonely married man, to nice homemade-food-filled weekends and a little bit of much-needed noise… both of which I terribly miss now, due to the bad habits I have cultivated, over years of married life! πŸ™‚ I look at a strange world these days.. a world where:

When you are at home, the silence gets deafening and the almost unreal peace disturbs you..

Your freedom can’t break free of the chains of bondage you have been celebrating each year on your anniversary..!

And you live as if you are a criminal just because nobody is punishing you anymore!

You go home and nobody gives you a cup of tea with storms of demands, complaints and questions in it.

You go for grocery shopping and the items in your cart exactly match those on your list.. to hell with consumer economy you say!

You eat in front of a strangely uninterrupted Television and you are the master of all the remotes instead of being manipulated like one for a change..

You surf those internet waves and nobody is counting the minutes allocated to you..!

And then you go to bed, but lie there on the edge, in your 1 foot wide space, as usual… just out of habit……
…………………
……………
….at 2am, all hell breaks loose….! Landlines, mobile lines all come alive.. alarms and sirens sound through them.. you think you are in some nightmare and then you wake up with a jolt and pick up that phone.. the voice on the other end says, “wake up you nice-n-cozy worry-free miserable married-man-turned-bachelor, I am your wife and I have something to tell you and it must be heard NOW…….”

Like a zombie, you listen to all that’s happening there, from outlaws to in-laws, from movies to curry! There you are, half asleep, half dead, approving all requests, accepting all complaints, laughing where you have to laugh, appreciating where you have to appreciate, disapproving where you have to disapprove, sounding interested and attentive…. like a robot… programmed for life!

I know a lot of you have been through this surreal world… A world that promises but never delivers, a world that’s free but in prison, a world that’s peaceful but never is………………..

I'm Back..

Somehow, sometime in 2018 or so, most of my self-hosted Blogs got attacked with crazy junk and I had to take them down one by one.. Life kept happening and I lost touch with Blogging. Almost 9 years after my last post, I have revived somik.net and three of my Blog sites including this. Now hosted by a more reliable Blogger.com platform, I am less worried about my blogs getting attacked🀞 So here I am.. I don't know what I am going to write. I am much older and possibly wiser, with some more mistakes under the belt.. isn't that after all what life is? A string of mistakes and recovering from them?! πŸ˜‰πŸ˜Ž Year 2026 is where I am getting back to doing things I had almost stopped or slowed down on -  Writing, Photography, building Software, and Sports. A lot has happened.. Some highlights of the years gone by - Four Job changes : Sep 2019, Apr 2022, Feb 2024, Apr 2025 Caught in a worldwide Covid pandemic starting in Mar 2020 . Is Life Fair to You?

Hello everyone! Well I just recently had my annual review. And as usual, I came out with the same feeling as always.. Dissatisfaction! But can you blame me? Tell me one thing, is there anyone here who thinks that he deserves less than what he is already getting? Is there anyone who says, oh, I am a pretty useless fellow, so I don’t really deserve this increment or bonus or whatever it is.. Does it ever happen? No, everyone in fact, feels like Life has not been fair to them.. My dear (friends), is Life fair to You?… Don’t even think about it, the answer to this question, is almost without exception, a big NO! A secondary corollary to this is – “Life is fair, but to someone OTHER than me..”! And the irony of this is, Each one of us thinks this way! πŸ™‚ Well, we are all human beings.. and we like to complain.. That’s understandable, nothing wrong with that! It’s in our genes.. Even my Son started saying “This is unfair”, since the age of 3..!! Daddy, it’s not fair that I don’t get a t...
